Why do people do things if Death will take everything away?

Why do some people like Leonardo Da Vinci, or Albert Einstein seek to know more about the Universe if death will take their knowledge away? I don't understand this... how can people sit idly and do things that death will take away anyway? I'm kind of jelous of those people, because I'm always worried about death when deciding on a purpose/goal, which makes me see everything as irrelevant... How do these people do it? What's the meaning in finding more about the Universe if death will ultimately take all this knowledge away? I can't understand how finding knowledge about the Universe will be meaningful once we die... How should human beings face up to death? And how can their knowledge and search for knowledge be relevant if they're going to die anyway?

I posted this question a while before as well, but it seems that people have misunderstood it. Firstly, a finite experience is worth it simply because you exist after it. So the argument that playing chess or learning are useful/worth it only exists if we assume that we exist AFTER those experiences. They are worthy only in light of our posteriority. For example, learning to drive is worth it or useful ONLY if I assume that I exist afterwards to use it. But death takes our existence away (at least from our current state). Thus how can any finite experience/learning be useful/worth it??? Then the other argument that we leave a legacy behind... so what? Do you exist to witness the legacy? Again leaving a legacy behind (influencing other people) is only relevant TO YOU if YOU EXIST!!! If you don't exist, why is leaving a legacy important? And thinking about it, you'll exist for 70-80 years on average, and then disappear for an eternity or a very long period of time (assuming religious beliefs are true). So the large part of "you" will be non-existence. Why would legacy be that important? Why would you care? If you don't exist anymore who will be there to witness your legacy? Also how can you enjoy something when you know that soon you will not be able to enjoy it anymore... the whole fact that you will LOSE this enjoyment spoils it. The fact that you know that soon you won't be able to do things you enjoy makes them rotten... it's like showing food to a hungry dog but keeping it high enough that he can't reach it. It's torturing... So how can we humans avoid this? What am I missing? What's wrong with my argument?

Update:

To clarify, by death I mean the loss of consciousness.

Okay then , what would you rather do to spend your life ? Fritter it away or do something constructive even if you only live a comparatively short time ? Even if death overtakes us and we leave behind what we have accomplished , it doesn' t mean that life has no meaning . The meaning of life lies in our pursuit of happiness which is the only thing we seek for itself . There is nothing we can do about Birth and Death save to enjoy the interval . Since this might be the only life we will ever live , doesn' t it make sense to make full use of it and make the best of it by leaving a legacy for our descendants ? Hence , the world was made a better place to live in because we passed by . Although we are mortals , we become immortal in the memories of those we leave behind .

The simple and short answer is, life is a game. Like playing a video game. You do what you need to, to survive, and you either win that particular game and move on to another scenario with a different avatar, or you lose the game and still get another crack at playing. In the physical world game we do what is needed to survive, goals, achievements, etc and when the game is over, because of body death, you as a non-physical, immortal, spiritual being move on and get another mortal, physical, human body get back into and play the game again. The true winner of this physical world game, finds and learns the exact and correct spiritual truths or knowledge, advances spiritually and now knows how to get free of the physical body birth-death cycle, therefore can go on to play other games outside of the physical universe, and, or operate a physical human body and play the physical world game again, but this time not get trapped again and can leave at anytime and come back at will. That is true freedom and anyone can do it...

That is why people write things down, and build things that last longer than a human lifeSpan, like the pyramids or sky scrapers, and why art and music survive for millenia.

The purpose of life seems to be to LIVE IT. Living it requires being wise enough to avoid death, learn things to use to survive, to enjoy and to pass along to others.

No, knowing that I may not be able to dance when I am 90 makes dancing now, glorious and helps me to get better for the glorious NOW that is life.

Knowing I may see my granddaughter have a baby means I have lived a long, happy life.

It seems to me to be a matter of HOW YOU SEE LIFE And YOUR PLACE IN IT.

Try to figure out how to be happy instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of life.

People do things mainly because-----they can! Life is simply an opportunity. You can use it,or waste it.You can also spend life realizing how messed up it is.Then you will miss the opportunity to enjoy this pleasant planet and all this life has to offer.Trust me,I know where you're coming from,I'm a bit of a pessimist myself. But I know life is meant to be lived and enjoyed;not to be worried, frustrated, and angry.

Within you me and everyone else is an already eternal and invisible "Inner most being" that comes from the invisible Kingdom of Christ up in Heaven and that is why Scripture says to, "Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you!" Jesus said, "MY Kingdom is not of this world and I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH and the Gates of hell will not prevail against it!" That said, the invisible and eternal Kingdom of Christ is always in the east and in Scripture and up in Heaven and in the realm of the Spirit. This realm of the Spirit is up on the east side of the actual cross of Christ and his cross is at the top of our Republican wing separating the realm of the Spirit up on the east side from the realm of the flesh down on this side. Lucifer's Kingdom is down on earth and in the west and is directly in front of our Democrat wing and in the Garden of Eden, Christ's invisible Kingdom was in the east and up in Heaven and Lucifer's Kingdom down on earth and on the west side of the Garden. Our flesh or outer being is the part that ages and die but our inner most being is created in the image and likeness of the Living God will never ever die. Our flesh life leads us down from Christ's Kingdom to Lucifer's on earth and we sow to the flesh and end up going to hell. The Holy Spirit leads our inner most east and back up to Heaven and we end up in Heaven forever. Faith in Jesus does not start down on earth but up in Heaven because He, the Holy Spirit and all Scripture come from Heaven. Everything pertaining to eternity comes in from the east. Christians have never understood this and they build churches down on an earth that was cursed in Genesis. It is MORE fun to live up in the realm of the Spirit and watch everything that goes on down in the realm of the flesh and come down and shed light on everything. There is nothing wrong with your argument you just need light from Christ's Kingdom up in the realm of the Spirit.
