depends on how much your wife wants, everyones different some people pay a couple of hundred per kid, some people pay a couple of hundred thousand, depends on her lawyer and how much she wants to take from you

In the state of Illinois, the maximum a person can be ordered to pay for 2 children is 28% of their salary. Since he makes more than twice her salary, another part of the equation would be how much time the children spend with each parent. If physical custody is 50/50, then he will have to pay a fair amount, since the idea of child support is to make things as consistent for the children as possible between the parent's houses. Dad shouldn't be living in a penthouse while Mom lives in the trailer park.

How about him having custody, or better yet, Bird Nest Custody with both paying into a trust fund.

For 22 years, I have volunteered my time working with divorced/single fathers dealing in family law issues, such as child support, teaching them about what the states are not telling support obligors.
