How to remind someone they need to pay you? Babysitting?

My cousin called me last week and asked if I could watch her year old baby for a week, when she called she said "Do you wanna make some money?" So, she obviously said she'd pay me. Anyways, I watched the baby everyday from 8 - 5 so her and her husband could go to work. Well, this was last week and she still hasn't paid me. I really could use the money for gas and other things (I don't have a job yet) and she stated she would pay me. She wants me to babysit again next week, but I could use that time and gas on other things. I'm not being stingy, I'm just using a lot of money to get there and getting nothing in return. So, how could I bring this up in a non rude and tactful manner? Like I said she is family and I don't want to step on toes. Thanks!

I totally understand where you are coming from. Don't be afraid to speak up your payment because you are family. Family sometimes takes advantage of things like these by relying on the fact that "It's family and we're supposed to help each other out". You mentioned that you are unemployed and you need the money so that's a good way to ask her to pay you without being rude and telling her that you were hoping she can pay you because you really need the money now. If you don't say anything now she's going to expect you to babysit all the time without payment.

No problem, its fine to ask. Just ask her when do you think she will be able to pay you for last weeks babysitting? If she can't pay yet for whatever reason then I would decline babysitting again and tell her you don't have gas money to be doing that. Nothing wrong with asking that at all.

since she is your Cousin i doubt she would "fire" you, she is obviously busy and just Simply forgot. when you go again just simply ask she if she has the money to pay you.
