However, as I pointed out to one of my students, to vote for the man because he is black is as racist as voting for the other man because he's white. In fact to vote for a man because he is black means you're not voting for the other guy because he's white.

Also, and this is always my main point to those types of people is to say "You're not supposed to vote because it's a nice idea. you're supposed to vote for the most qualified. You know, that whole "content of their character and not the color of their skin" thing MLK was talking about?? Pulling the race card is a desperate move of a swiftly sinking campaign. Unfortunately, it works on the very uneducated who buy into these types of lies because it's easier than having to actually take some responsibility for their own personal failures. I know a particular person who lives on welfare, doesn't work, doesn't look for work but is completely capable of working. He said it's because he's been treated badly because he's black and half hispanic. So, he blames all his past failures on people being racist rather than admit that he was too lazy to go out and work hard. He doesn't have a car because of and I quote "racist white folk who won't let him have a fair deal" It's always easier to blame someone else for your problems and that's one reason why the race card works so well on people. They'd rather believe it really is someone else's fault rather than their own.
