Cake decorating ideas (firetruck/firefighter)?

Want to do a firetruck/firefighter theme cake for my son's 4th b-day. I have no skills at all, so I am doing a flat cake with matchbox firetrucks. I thought about making a road to put the truck on. Maybe some trees, or something on fire or with flames. So I need simple ideas on how to make these things. I saw on site for example that had a road made out of crushed oreos with little pieces of yellow starburst as the lines. Any other ideas?

You could also use M&M's to make the road, trees, flames etc. and marshmallows to make clouds. It give the cake a unique look that would go well with the cars. You could also use a can of pure white frosting from the grocery store. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons into individual bowls. Add a couple drops of coloring gel and stir until you have the color you like. Then spoon each individual color into the bottom corner of quart-size ziplock bags. Snip the bottom of the bag and draw! Its super simple and you can just throw away the bag when you are done...easy clean up.

Make everything out of fondant! It will give the cake a clean look and taste yummy too!
