Do people that commit suicide go to heaven?

Do people that commit suicide still go to heaven? What I mean...is if you knew Christ, and were a good person, but committed suicide would you still go to heaven? What do you believe/think?

I'm asking this because my friend passed away to suicide a few weeks ago.

Suicide is, in effect, self-murder. The unfortunate thing about it is that the one who commits it cannot repent of it. The damage is permanently done. We can see in the Bible that murderers have been redeemed (Moses, David, etc.), but they had opportunities to confess their sins and repent. With suicide, the person does not. But that does not mean the person is lost. Jesus bore all that person's sins, including suicide. If Jesus bore that person's sins on the cross 2000 years ago, and if suicide was not covered, then the Christian was never saved in the first place and the one sin of suicide is able to undo the entire work of the cross of Christ. This cannot be. Jesus either saves completely or he does not.

Those of us alive today can only make guesses. You can ask God on Judgement Day for a definitive answer but at that point you wont even be thinking of this friend of yours.

the best you can do now is pray for your friend and live a Godly life.

PS: You wrote: "if you knew Christ, and were a good person, but committed suicide"

If you really knew God you would not kill yourself. When someone gets to the point where they commit suicide, they are completely separate from God. He gave the gift of life and you rejected it.

Here is some reading concerning suicide in the link below.

This is from the perspective of people who have had near death experiences during their suicides.

I believe he will go to heaven, certainly. You can rest easy on this.

There is another link talking about christian universal ism, which is the belief that no person goes to hell and the redemptive act of Jesus was enough for all of humanity.

Being saved is a choice. You must be rational to make this choice. Therefore, if you are in an irrational state of mind and you commit suicide it was an in the moment thing. You were not thinking rationally, and to undo a rational decision you would have to make a decision in a rational state of mind. Therefore, I believe that it depends on the circumstances; for example, if you were in a state of severe depression and just lost it and shot yourself that was in an irrational moment and frame of mind and could not undo a rational decision. However, only God can know or judge.

If you were a true Christian, you will go to heaven. If you are really a Christian, you're sins have been forgiven, past, present, and future. God knows that we're not good people. He knows that, given a chance to prove ourselves, we'll fail. That's why he sent Jesus. There is no sin too great for God to forgive, except for the sin of rejection. If your friend accepted Christ, they're in heaven with him right now. The Bible assures this.

"For you did not recevie a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption." - Romans 8:15

The writer of Romans was Paul. As he said in Philippians, he was raised a Jew. In that culture, a family could disown their own children, but if they adopted a child, they could not disown that child. We as human beings are not God's children from birth. We are children of sin. However, when we become Christians, we are adopted into God's family. According to Jewish tradition and the context Paul is using in this verse, we cannot be disowned by God.

"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of his glory." - Ephesians 1:13-14

Once we are children of God, our inheritance is guaranteed by God. That doesn't sound like the language of a God who would cut off a relationship with his children when they sinned.

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." - John 10:27-30

No one and nothing could have snatched your friend out of God's hand if they belonged to him, not even suicide. I'm sorry that you had to lose a friend because of it, though. May God bless you.

First, let me say that none of us are good, and anyone who believes himself to be a good person is only fooling himself.

As to the suicide thing, I can't really say. But Jesus says that all sins are forgiveable except blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

God loves everyone regardless of anything you do to yourself.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you anything different -- especially the LDS viewpoint.

God is unconditional with his love and no matter what happens on this earth he has a plan in the next lifetime for everyone and no one will be excluded. Forget about the false concept of Heaven and Hell.

Your life on earth can be a Heaven or a Hell right now, you make this choice. You're friend has entered into a place of complete acceptance of love. To me this is Heaven.

    God is Love.

in the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God (Father + Holy Spirit), and the Word (Jesus) was God. dead are in heaven or hell. so-called hauntings/ghosts are demons fooling around. within 3 days after you die, you visit places you love. then you go through 20 ordeals to see if you go to heaven. if you pass all 20, you'll go to heaven. regardless, you'll be shown heaven and hell. all this occurs within 40 days of death. most people fail to pass heresy ordeal. a buddhist who led a nice life can't pass it and goes to hell. reincarnation is a lie. dreams are from the devil most of the time. don't believe in dreams. aborted babies go to hell for 33 years. any unrepented sin leads to hell. pale gay red-eyed flying antichrist rules from jerusalem. euro is his currency. demons fly in ufo ships. no aliens exist. nobody lives on other planets. 666 tattoo by lasers is given when people stretch hands to receive small grey plastic world passport. police will laser people on the highways. food stores will be set up to laser people too. rfid chips and electronic tattoos are used to track people to laser them. unforgivable sins are: suicide, worship of antichrist, and 666 tattoo by lasers. pray to Jesus to save you from hell.

We have truly no way of knowing. Nobody ever comes back to tell us. Grieve your friend's passing and just know that it wasn't personal, he/she was extremely tortured and did not have the tools to deal with life properly. Be well.
