Shauna.. please be honest. Everyone knows there are many sites for Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus ect to meet and talk like this where NO atheists visit.

YA is a WELL KNOWN location for theists and atheists to meet and talk. If you don't like the mix of people here the exit is always open.

Well, maybe it's because the religious people are always stuffing their beliefs down atheist's throats. Both side believes they are correct, and there will always be a war about the touchy subject of religion. Me, I'm Agnostic, so I'm in the middle, and tend to share my opinions with both sides. But at the end of the day, everyone has their opinion, believes they are correct, and will look to destroy each other at every given chance. So, the only way to solve this is for EVERYONE to accept the fact that some are Christian, some don't believe in god at all, and then you have the MANY different churches, sects, cults, believers, and non believers in between. If they could all agree to leave each other alone, there might be some peace in this world, but we all know that's never going to happen.

It is a section of religion and spirituality. Don't confuse this section thinking that it is only religion or religion and spirituality are one and the same. Are we not all to some extent spiritual, which may not be profound by our talking. Moreover, an atheist has become atheist because the concept of religion is there. The religion concept only has made the atheists to think whether they believe this or not. By this logic the atheists are eligible to question and answer in this section, and section is appropriately named as Religion and Spirituality.

Why are some people so stupid as to not understand that a Q and A board on the subject of religion is just that, a place to post questions and answers about religion? This is Yahoo Answers, not Lourdes. When will they mature enough and gain enough intellectual depth to believe that a person doesn't have to believe in God in order to find the subject ore religion interesting and want to post legitimate questions and answers on the subject?

I don't try to push my disbelief.

Sure, I am an atheist, but I don't think everyone else should be. I answer honestly, normally with quotes, verses and citing. If you choose not to believe me or the studies or holy books I show as evidence, I am not bothered by your choice. You should believe what you feel is right, just as I believe what I feel is right.

However, there are of course the extremes. Just as I have been told "You just need to accept Jesus or you will burn in hell" there are atheists who will say theists are "stupid or ignorant". Neither atheists or theists would want to count these groups as the norm.

I leave proselytizing to politicians and Jehovah's Witnesses.

But it's okay for Christians to push their belief off on people wanting real answers not a lot of obnoxious bull?

I find your lack of sense disturbing.

Well, there is almost no monitoring by Yahoo anymore, so expect much trash by all sorts of members. The atheists are here to destroy anything positive in the way of Christianity since they perceive it as a political threat, and to give themselves mutual and corporate validation for their beliefs.

Atheism almost classifies as a religion, and deep seated beliefs, prejudices, and internal conflict can reach spiritual levels. You simply have to ignore it if it bothers you. I don't use "show me another" anymore because of the amount of antagonistic garbage. I simply scan the board. It is easy to spot the trash and go on to one that seems genuine and according to the guidelines. Even then, you may open a can of bilge....

A crowd of regular "members" have infested the category. The same individuals with the same antagonistic and anti-christian techno-babble continually post basically the same set of "questions" and antagonistic, childish answers.

Atheism may not be a religion, but it's part of religious discourse.

Serious questions do generally get serious answers as well as trolling.

Why is "it doesn't matter, it's all made up" not a real answer to any religious question? It may not be what you want to hear, but the right answer sometimes isn't.

because a lot of religious teaching is wrong, and you need to start thinking and reading the darned book. shall we start with Armageddon, do you know its an actual place on the map, NOT an event? and that the battle at Armageddon has already happened over 100 years ago?

Talking about religion, even if it's to encourage people to critically examine it, are real answers. I am interested in, and somewhat knowledgeable of, religions and their impact on society. And that's the theme of this section of Y!A. If you want an echo chamber, go elsewhere.
