    The Lord of the Rings is meaningful. It wasn't written for immediate profit. It doesn't promote duplicity or witchcraft. It encourages wholeness and balance.

    Readers of classic fantasy also enjoy The Ice Princess by Theodore Svea and

    The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin

    Harry Potter. I dislike high fantasy; Harry Potter appeals to me because the magical elements exist within a recognisable, modern world. Oddly enough I love world-building in other genres - Dune is one of my favourites, for example - but I find sword & sorcery utterly boring.
