File saved without clicking save as (so as a temp file?) now its GONE! help!?
Spent all day working on the finishing touches for an assignment...... just as i was ready to hand it in its gone! ...
can i get it back?
its in word 2010 and i DID click save though forgot it was a file i'd opened via my email so it didnt go into my documents.... there is no auto recover through word.... and i stupidly opened the email version again which has perhaps wiped my older (edited) version.
i saved it but it was to a temporary file i think... i have the original version (pre emailed version) in my documents... but this is a very early version of the file....
the only version i have in temp files is the one i reopened in a panic.... i need the one i edited with all the changes on...
i have tried showing hidden files and looking through those too but to no avail.... :(

Hi,
Ok, if you're positive you've saved it in the first place, it should be somewhere in your hard disk, however usually when you save a file in your case word you would get prompted with the location in which you'll need to save the file.
I presume you're on windows 7, in that case go to start (far left bottom corner), in the search Programs and files type in the name of your file, you'll be presented with all files with that name that located in your hard disk.
Note: even if you opened the file again through your email and saved it again, the change would not overwrite your previous work unless you save it under the same name, in this case windows would warn you that a file with the same name actually exist and ask you if you want to replace it or migrate changes etc.
Thus, if you really saved your word doc the first time and didn't replace it the second time, the file should be there.
Gd Luck!
