Car accident, hit by a 14 year old kid, no insurance, not inspected. what can i do?

How I would handle...

1. Presuming no injuries, I would contact the parents and request $500 to indemnify you for your financial loss.

2. If above fails, I would go to DMV to determine the vehicle owner. They are ultimately responsible for allowing the 14 year old to access vehicle. Request $500 from them.

3. If all the above fail, sue parents/custodian (since 14 is a minor) and vehicle owner.

My thought process...

* These issues can take up a lot of time and effort. Found it a best practice to find remedies at the lowest possible level.

* In order to sue you need to find a viable person to claim such. Cant get blood from a stone.

* Check with your insurer about UIM (uninsured motorist coverage). These are normally more cost effective policies but not offered in all states.

It can go both ways. You can say that it was the supervising adults' fault for the kid to run and hit your car mirror. However, the mother can sue you and say that you hurt her child in a "car accident" and make you pay up. If I were you, go get a lawyer now. However, if you really have to go to court over this, you'll most likely win b/c you were driving 5-10 mph, and you can argue that it was the kid's fault and the adult's fault. You can also even argue that you didn't even see the kid because you were looking at where the rest of the 4 kids were thinking that they were the group and no random loose kid was running straight at your car. Anyways, just get a lawyer and you'll most likely win b/c of the evidence.

The intersection and the speed limit should be such that you could have made your turn safely before having oncoming traffic catch you. At worse, they'd find the two of you 50/50 at fault. At best, if the kid was speeding, you're to the good. Unless the car was stolen, you would sue the owner of the car.

Check you own auto policy and see if you have uninsured motorist coverage. At 14 years old the other driver cannot be sued but maybe the owner of the car can be sued. Depends upon what state you are in and the circumstances surrounding how the kid got the car.. I would talk to a good personal injury attorney. One should talk to you for no fee.

Since you were in the middle of the intersection you had the right of way. You can't sue the kid but you can sue his parents especially if it was their car. If the owner of the car loaned it to the kid you could sue them instead. Either way your insurance company should be the ones trying to collect from the person who hit you.

I don't think you can sue a 14 year old. But you can sue either his parents or the registered owner of the car. If it's not his parents' car, whoever owns the car would probably say he stole it, though. But it's worth a try.

No you can't sue. You're at fault for the accident since you were the one turning into oncoming traffic. It doesn't matter if he was going to fast or had no insurance or no license or no inspection sticker, you're supposed to drive safely and if you got hit by a car coming over a hill, it's YOUR fault for proceeding when you weren't sure a car was coming.

This doesn't make any sense.....

If a 14 year old was driving a car, he would face several criminal charges, which the accident would almost 100% be his fault, no matter really the situation.

bikes have more rights then cars and walkers and bikers have rights too

if any one is to get sued it would be the hill thats who you blame and sue

not the kid or his family , you take it to the city and sue them

Yes you can sue his parents. But if they couldn't afford insurance for their ride, you're wasting money on an attorney.
