Who's more foreign to an Australian: A Canadian or an Irish person?
Thanks.
But who do they view as being more similar to themselves? Just curious :)

Canadians and Irish are family in a way, and neither are all that foreign, with the Irish being a little more similar.

It's a gppd question. Australians have a soft spot for both- we look on both as sort of family. Most of us have Irish grandparents or greatgrandparents, and we regard Canadians as a kind of cousin.
Personally, I feel closer to Canadians than the Irish because we are both relatively new countries with similar size populations.

Guess Canadians as the Irish have been in Australia a very long time and are part and parcel of Australia.
Very few Canadian immigrants here compared to the Irish.

What a strange question! You are assuming that all Australians are of white Anglo background. To at least 25% of our population, they would probably not be able to distinguish between the two, much less care. A further 25% would notice the difference but wouldn't view one as being more "foreign" than the other. White Anglo Australians may feel a bit more connected with Irish, as many would have some Irish in their family tree. To THIS Australian, they are both lovely people in general, welcome here as is everybody, but one is no more foreign than the other.

they are both similar, Canadians and the Irish are both well resented here. The two countries blend in well once they arrive and blend in with the flow. The Irish tends to drink more than the Canadians who would rather put on there hiking boots and explore.

They are merely Irish or Canadian. We don't think anymore about it. We are accepting of both equally and both have similarities.
