Why can't my IBM Thinkpad connect to the internet? 10 points!!!!?
My brother has a VAIO laptop which works fine with ethernet. But when I put it into my IBM laptop the ethernet light on my modem doesn't light up. I decided that I would try to install my modem (via CD) which is Speedtouch, but to no avail.
Went in Control Panel and clicked Phone and modem and then I click the Modems tab and then clicked Add. After that I got a new window that says Install new modem clicked on Don't detect my modem click next Click on HAVE DISK. Another window (Install from disk) Click browse. Select setup Information but the type of file that it want is a (*inf) file. But my modem doesn't have that type of file in the setup folder.
Appreciate any answers.

You normally do not need to install software for your modem unless you are connecting via USB.
If your Eth connection is not working then you have an Ethernet problem. This would imply a missing / outdated driver for the Ethernet adapter, corrupted OS or Windows Registry or bad cable. Ensure the adapter is "Enabled" in the control panel too.
Start by checking Device Manager that your Ethernet Adapter has a good driver and no yellow exclamation marks are shown. Then verify the network adapter is set to Enabled/On. Verify you are using a known good eth cable and that it is plugged into a known good eth port. Sometimes, Modems/Routers, etc have to be cold booted (powered off a few seconds then back on) before they will recognize a different computer (but this does not sound like the case for you).

I have a IBM thinkpad and we use a Vodaphone Card that slots into the section - each and every of the phone carriers do them - they frequently fee a connection value and month-to-month value which will be quite extreme priced. although you need to purchase voiuchers for instantaneous connectuions (your pc could be instantaneous enabled for sure). There are Hotspots in each and every single position and assorted tactics you will pay - mastercard or vouchers in case you look on BT's internet web site for instantaneous internet it truly is going to direct you yet all the different telephone businesses have similiar issues.

first goto control panel and see if u ve lan connection icon if then try disabling & enabling it.
still if no light then click on run->devmgmt.msc
>goto network adapters and see if u have something link ethernet adapter and click on prop to see the status
>if status is good then rt click on lan icon -> properties ->click configure ->advanced
>then u will find something link speed and duplex/Link speed in list and next to that u'll ve drop down box with different speed
>change that to 100full/half,10 full/half duplex and check the light status
>if nothing worked try reinstalling ethernet adpter from dev manager
