What effects do anti-depressants have?

Anti-depressants as in prescribed medication for depression. Does it really only target the depressed emotion? Does it interfere with other emotions like stunt them in the sense that they're less vehement?

I am going to be real with you the meds I took, I can't remember the name but they made me sleep for 2 to 4 hours and I felt nothing at first but within 2 weeks later they made me more depressed, and yes feel more suicidal and also they made me very stressed and I was very mad and even meaner. I would just sit in my room and probably cry and brake my stuff until I told my mom I just need to get off the meds before I really kill myself.

I have manic-depression btw and I hope you find a good pill for your depression and not the ones I took :)

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (as an example of a popular drug) interferes with the use of serotonin by neurons. Serotonin is one of the most pervasive "thought" chemicals that your brain uses. Speaking very generally, taking an anti-depressant that focused on serotonin would interfere with all thoughts/processes that used serotonin.

it varies on each person, i dont take them anymore because they made me feel high/ sick and too happy . i couldnt really feel any other emotion and that made me angry by itself. you really should talk to a doctor about side effects before using.
