The RDA (recommended daily allowance) of protein is 46 grams a day for women and 52 grams for men.

I drink vegan protein shakes from True Nutrition. 50% rice and 50% pea protein, but you can get other custom blends with soy and hemp protein as well. I use the regular flavors which have sucralose in them, but they have stevia (all natural) flavors that I haven't tried.

One shake is around 100 calories and 23 grams of protein.

I usually drink a double protein shake though for 200 calories and 46 grams of protein.

I use a blender bottle that I got from amazon... that way I don't need to use a blender. It's really nice!

Also I just picked up some vegan jerky from vegan essentials that I like. It's about 75 calories and 10 grams of protein. Also I got some vegan meatloaf and vegan chicken nuggets from them as well.

Plus, I just got some dried edamame from nuts.com which is 210 calories and 18 grams of protein.

Other vegan protein sources: beans (black beans, kidney beans, chick peas, etc), tempeh, seitan, tofu, mock meats like vegan ground beef, and lentils.

Edit: As far as being tired, it may not be a protein deficiency. It could be iron or B vitamins. Do you take a B12 supplement? B12 is not in a vegan diet.

I take a vegan multivitamin from Deva for iron.

Also a sublingual (under the tongue) B12 supplement. It needs to be under the tongue because the saliva forms a complex with the B12 which protects it in the stomach. I've had my B12 tested with bloodwork at the doctors and my levels are great.

I got both the multivitamin and the B12 supplement from amazon.

How do you know you are lacking protein, your doctor can tell if your deficient by taking a simple blood test. It is very difficult to become protein deficient in the developed world unless you starve yourself. Protein is in most food especially beans, lentils, green vegetables, soya, tofu, nuts and whole grains. It is much healthier to get your protein from food rather than a shake. Don't prescribe yourself supplements without your doctors advice. Tiredness could be from a lack of B12 but even that can be obtained from plant foods such as cereal, yeast extract and soya milk.

You've seen the doctor and had bloodwork done?

In today's society, it's virtually impossible to be protein deficient unless you are a really really bad eater, and even then, you'd have to work at it.

You don't need a protein shake.

Let's pretend that for breakfast you have 1/2c oatmeal with 1c soymilk. That's 12g protein.

For a snack, you have a peach. 1 large peach is 2g of protein.

Lunch is rice, beans, and a corn tortilla. 1c Black Beans is 15g of protein. 1c brown rice is 5g protein. We'll call 1 corn tortilla 1g. That's 21g protein for lunch.

You are now at 35g protein and it's only lunch. That's not counting any veggies you put on your lunch and any protein snacks like nuts or edamame.

Thought is that women need 40-50g of protein a day and most doctors think that this number is high. So let's call it 45g/day, you only need 10g for dinner.

I regularly eat Barilla Plus Penne. Just 2oz of that is 10g protein and I usually eat 2-3 servings. Even without sauce, bingo, you are at 55-65g of protein without even trying.

The only way you're lacking protein is if you're not eating enough.

    It's probably iron.

Edit: Some high-iron foods are leafy greens, oats, nuts/seeds, nutritional yeast, beets, cherries, beans, etc.

Protein shakes aren't healthy. Your body shouldn't be getting a day's worth of protein at one time.
