My dog keeps coughing up white foam?

My siberian huskey started coughing up white foam last night, right after I gave him some water. I used the same water as we always give him, and he's never been sick before from it. He's 2 years old, and pretty healthy. Last night around 10pm though, he started hacking up some nasty white foam. He kept doing this until at least 5:00am. It's very loud and almost sounds painful, and I'm very worried but I can't afford to take him to the vet. He doesn't act like it hurts at all though, as he's as happy and energetic as he usually is even when he's coughing. He hasn't been in a pound or near any other dogs lately, so I don't think it could be kennel cough. We also haven't changed food types any time recently, or feeding amounts/time. He seems to be coughing less this morning, but it still worries me. What's causing this? And how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

You know, it takes just as much time to call a vet clinic as it does to type all that out and post on here. Nobody here can tell you exactly what is going on with your dog. Honestly, I'd make payment arrangements with your vet and bring him in. I think if people can't afford their pets health care then they have no business having pets. Maybe your case is different, I don't know, but it bugs me. It's like people who don't bring their sick kids to the doctor because they can't afford it. Just call the vet at get some professional advice at the very least.

I'm sorry for all the judgement you're receiving on here, when you are just trying to find help for your canine friend. People had dogs for centuries before there were even veterinarians to take care of them, but I guess they shouldn't have had dogs. I guess these judgmental people will have to kick their dogs to the street or give them away if they ever fall on hard times financially. Unfortunately I don't really have answers, our dog does the same coughing thing, but on a regular basis. We have a Banfield wellness plan, but they haven't found any answers in the past. I hope it was just a one time thing for your dog...

The same thing happened to my dog last night but today she is fine. I'm pretty sure she ate some grass yesterday. If your dog isn't better yet I think it's time to call the vet. Good luck!

He may of ate some grass which always makes them sick, all that's like a White foamy vomit like what you described, well if it grass then he'll b fine, I'd say if it don't clear up soon take him the vet, anyway home he gets better soon

That sounds like an issue for the Vet. He may have eaten something he wasn't supposed to.

  • my advice is not to post questions here unless you want to hear from sanctimonious jack-asses. Pet snobs should keep their useless opinions to themselves. you'll know when it's time to take your pet to the vet if you know your pet. don't listen to these people...this isn't about you, it's about your dog's health so don't take it personally.

I know you don't want to hear this but it's the truth - you should not have a pet you can't take care of. If you don't take him to the vet that is neglect.

You should take him to the vet immediately. He might have something caught in his throat or mouth and will need medical treatment.
