Single use hospital issued baby bottles and nipples?

I'm having a hard time understanding why they can only be used once and aren't suitable to clean and reuse... are they porous and toxic? I mean... surely they could be sanitized and reused right? Or is my kid gonna have his lips rot off for my lack of resources to keep throwing them away?

Sorry to be cynical about it. I'm a very logical person and it dumbfounds me. I can't seem to find a clear reasoning for why the instructions and the nurses all said use once and toss. Thank you for your knowledge and potentially directing me to legitimate answer sources.

That seems like a really good idea. I wanted to do it once but i read that "some plastics contain toxic chemicals, including BPA and phthalates"

The ones you buy in the store are DESIGNED to be sterilized and used over and over again.

The ones in the hospital, are not.

Therefore, they are subject to HOLD bacteria and to break down from repeated washings...that is why they are labeled "single use only".

If you lack such resources that you cannot buy a couple of bottles for your baby at the dollar store, then frankly, you had no business having a child to start with.

In the hospital, yes throw them away. They sent a boat load home with me and told me I could sterilize them and reuse and I do and my micro preemie who has a compromised immune system is ten months old and has never been sick, so I would say they are fine.
