So where is the conservative praise for Obama bring down the price of gas $.40 since April?

or is now the time for them to claim the President doesn't have anything to do with gas prices after they beat him over it for months?

The price of gas will fluctuate seasonally and within certain margins based on upticks or downturns in the economy. It is a worldwide commodity, and is subject to supply and demand.

Some people who favor Obama are quick to say that he is responsible for anything and everything good that happens, and those who do not favor him are just as quick to blame him for anything bad - but it's just not that simple.

Financial analysts say that the decline in gas prices this time around is due mainly to the easing of tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program, and to the global economic slowdown. (see articles linked below).

Unemployed people need less gas to get to work, have no money to go on vacation, therefore buy less, therefore decrease demand, therefore prices come down. It's an economic law that has been around for centuries.

The president CAN however, affect the price of gas in a very substantial, long term way. It has happened twice within the last several years.

George Bush authorized hundreds of new oil leases which increased exploration, drilling, production and supply. At the end of his presidency, gas prices were $1.85/gallon, largely as a result of this anticipated increase in supply.

Obama has made no secret of his desire to have the price of gas hover around $5. One of his first acts when he became president was to cancel 77 of these Bush-era leases. The price of gas has been climbing steadily since then. Yes, there are dips - but it's like the stock market - up and down daily, monthly - but the long-term trend is up.

This is due to production policy, and the president DOES have some control over that.

$.40 is nothing - and up or down, the president cannot control that - with one exception.

He can release an amount of gas from our strategic reserves, temporarily flood the market which will artificially deflate the price for the short term. Stay tuned - this could be an election trick.

Wellll it is still double what it was when GWB took office.

But that being said, we never said the pres had anything to do with gas prices, we were just playing clips of all of the libbies including Obama berating GWB for high gas prices when he was pres. You know, pointing out more libbie hypocrisy

The price went down primarily because demand is down. That means the economy is getting worse. From that perspective, we can blame Obama but praising him for that won't likely happen.

Didn't you claim earlier that the President doesn't have anything to do with the price of gas?

So, a $.40 drop is praise worthy but what about the nearly $2.00 increase since taking office?

let us not forget that while they were going up obama said that we need to use alternative fuels, well, then chevy volts spontaneously burst into flames and prices still go up, obama then tells congress to watch it more carefully, then it started to drop,

so whether government actually played a role in the lowering prices, the liberals should be thanking the republican congress because obama couldnt handle the job

Gasoline prices go up by more than $2.00 per gallon since Obama took office and we should praise him when they drop back by $0.40???

Wow. Give that man another Nobel Prize.

Because unlike you, we are smart enough to know that the root cause is the unemployment that is causing less gas to be sold. People don't have enough money to go on vacations thanks to Obama's economy.
