My bath towels have a musty smell -- any cure?
Is there anything I can add to my washer or dryer to prevent this musty smell -- or should I toss them and get new ones?

Wash with 1/4 cup vinegar in your wash. This removes musty odors wonderfully, and don't worry, the smell of vinegar will dry out of them. Be sure to not let towels sit in the washer for long periods of time. Dry them immediately after the wash load is done. Clothes have a tendency to get musty in the washer quickly during the summer.
If you have the option, line dry. Using extra dryer sheets and such only try and mask the smell of must and once that wears off, they will smell musty again, so don't try cover scenting, follow the above.

If they are white then give them a bleaching in the sink with hot water for an hour or so. If coloured miss this out. A hot wash with usual washing powder together with a scoop or tablet of dishwashing powder will clean them up beautifully - if you can put them in the sun to dry all the better.
Tumble drier sheets will give them a nice smell and fluff them up again.

When mine get a funky smell, I use OxyClean and warm water and that takes care of it. There are other ways, though. Hot water and white vinegar is a good way to clean them. Towels get a buildup of crud from soap, etc. and sometimes you have to give them a good clean. Another one is 1 c. of baking soda into your wash along with the soap and use hot water.

Wash them in the washer with hot water, detergent and 1 cup Of Arm & Hammer washing powder. You can find it in the detergent aisle in the grocery store

Overuse of softening products can cause this.
Wash in small loads with more than enough water.
Just use your detergent .
Dry is small loads with one dryer sheet.
Hope that helps.

Did you store them while damp
Or have you just not used them in a while ?
They just need a fresh wash and line dry if you can
