Can you wear band t-shirts to mexico city?

Question

This might be a stupid question but can you wear band shirts to mexico city? I know most of the bands already toured to mexico and played their. But my mom is all worried that ill bet robed by looking like a tourist. But we would get robbed anyway because speaking English. So WHAT CAN you wear to mexico?

Mexico City's tourist areas are reasonably safe.  Just don't hail taxis on the street (ask a restaurant or bar to call one for you), don't wander into unfamiliar areas, and don't walk alone at night.

If you look like a backpacker you won't be a target of crime - a mugger is going to look for someone in a business suit or a tourist with a giant camera around their neck.  A band T-shirt wouldn't be a problem.  But if you would feel safer then just wear regular T-shirts.

Band t-shirts are not a tourist thing in mexico city, wearing shorts in the Zócalo (downtown) now that is touristy. You can wear almost anything, with the obvious anything too tight or revealing is not advisable ever

A little offensive question, but I know you meant well.
Unlike stupid judgmental Hollywood and racist ignorant people believes, Mexico City and major capitals in latinamerica are completely "occidentalized". People won't look any different from what you could find in NY City or L.A., just a lot of diversity.

About security, Mexico City is pretty safe these days (truth it was known as one of the most dangerous cities, but that was TWENTY YEARS AGO; crime and pollution rates have dramatically  dropped in the last 10 years). Violence related issues are ONLY IN NORTH country, NOT IN THE CAPITAL nor centre-south states.
Mexico City is safe, if you follow the usual common sense measures you'll take on ANY BIG CITY in the world.

You are very welcome to my city... and referring to your original question, YES, you may wear anything you want in Mexico City. I don't remember to see any band shirts in videos, but believe me, are pretty regular  ;)

An Eskimo parka in 35 degree C or 100 degree F, is not a good idea.
