I need so help as to what should be considered when a person put a new battery in thier Toyota Sequoia...?

They connected the positive post to the negative and the negative to the positive now the SUV doesn't do anything it won't accelerate and other issues are occurring. Anyone know what to check or what to do?? I know it shorted out something or burned a few fuzes or sensors or something but how do they proceed in trouble shooting it.

Update:

thank you Brian; they did finally get it to start and to accelerate and are working on finding other fuzzes that are burnt. They will be taking it to a mechanic since they are able to start and drive it now to get the rest taken care of... thanks a bunch! :)

Its very possible the ECU is fried. Wires wont melt however literally every fuse, inline fuse, relay, and fuseable link in the car could be blown... I couldn't even begin to tell you were to start other than get the car to start, and then worry about everything that doesnt work next (headlights, radio, dashboard, climate control, windows, etc)
