Help with Moving to London?
Right now I live in the US, but I'm a dual citizen, and have family scattered throughout London and the rest of England. I was thinking about moving to London for a year, but have a few questions.
Are flat shares easy to find? I can stay with my family for a little while, but I would prefer to set out on my own as quickly as possible.
Also, I know the economy is in a huge down turn right now, but what about work? I don't need anything fancy, but I was thinking something like working at a pub, or in retail. I know I'd have to work long hours, and that's just fine with me. Would I have any luck with finding that sort of stuff? Or is even that in a bad state right now?
There are a few companies that I've seen that will place you in work (like a pub) before you get there, specifically The London Pub Company, that look all right, but require a fee upfront. It includes housing and most meals though, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. If I can find my own housing and work quickly when I get over there, it would seem like I could avoid those kinds of companies.
Thanks!
I'm actually not overly concerned with being in London, anywhere in England really would work for me, I just have aimed at London because I'm the most familiar with it, and have the most family there. But any other places that you could suggest would be helpful as well.

London is great, go for it! There's always loads of pub jobs. Avoid anything that asks for money up front, it's probably a scam.
Flatshares are plentiful in London and there are loads of good sites to find them on. Try Gumtree, Spareroom or Fastflatshare.
Good luck!

Finding work anywhere in the UK can be difficult at the moment, but it can be found if you're persistent and give yourself a bit of time. Personally, I'd avoid anywhere that will charge a fee to find you casual work. I'd probably recommend going door to door in pubs or small stores to see if they need any help. You could also try the listings here:

Flatshares are easier to come by unless you're particularly picky. Gumtree again is a good place to start although London is a big place to make sure you know what the area is like before making any decisions.

I live in Bristol, UK. Jobs here are so hard to get because there simply isn't any. And when one comes up their can be hundreds of people apply for it - especially in London.
