Internet connection keeps timing out?

I've tried doing research on this but I'm coming up short with answers only because in my situation I'm piggy backing off someone else's wireless connection around my house. And yes, know I shouldn't be, but I'm only at this house for a month so I'm just trying to use what I have.

Anyway my question is, what are some methods that I can use to prevent this from happening every 10 minutes? The only way's I've found that help at all are letting 10 to 100 hour videos on youtube load and having large files upload to my dropbox but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to make my connection last longer before it times out again.

Are you in the UK (this is Yahoo Answers UK and Ireland)? I ask because I have only ever seen a dial-up connection time out and I infer you are not using a dial-up connection. You have a wireless connection to your router. Your router has a connection to the Internet over the telephone line (or via cable in some cases). Each connection is distinct and independent but you need both to be working to connect your computer to the Internet. It is not clear from your question which of the two connections is timing out. Most routers have a light to indicate when you have an Internet connection. Does this light go out when your connection times out or is it the wireless link that fails?

the problem is the router being set to disconnect on idle, you could install something on your computer to keep the connection alive such as a low res video streaming over and over.
