    “What you seek is seeking you.”

    Begin by being the observer.

    Recognize where you place your attention, attention is the key to awareness.

    We are the awareness of where our attention lies.

    We were once told that as a man thinks so he is.

    But most of us are unaware of our thoughts.

    The journey to Self Realization begins with observation of self.

    Only by observation can we come to recognize the blocks we have in place to Remembrance.

    May we all come to remembrance of our First Estate!

    Many Blessings!

    EDIT:

    "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear as it is, infinite."

    The idea of meditation is to have self discipline. Self discipline means exactly that - discipline of the self. Self is the mind that can never keep still. It's always jumping from one thing to another. Try it now. See if you can simply be still for 30 seconds without thinking about the past.

    An insurance company concerned with the increase in road rage recently conducted a survey on drivers aggression. Peaceful music and rock music were tested. No prizes for guessing which music caused less aggression. But why was this? It's because there was less noise, less distraction, and so the drivers were more aware.

    It's the same thing with the human mind where meditation is concerned. The stiller it is the more it's able to observe. Although in meditation you're not meant to be aware of anything apart from your own sensational presence, the stillness of it carries on into your everyday affairs. The more you do it the stiller you become until the practice of mediation is no longer needed because you're always in this natural aware state.

    Awareness begins with being contemplative on the self. There are many meditative practices that will aid you to make yourself more aware. You may start with a simple breathing technique. First concentrate on the breath, the inhalation and exhalation. Take deep breaths, a deep inhalation will fill your lungs and it will expand till the navel center. Then hold it for 3 seconds and exhale out completely and hold on for 3 seconds before inhaling again. The methods is to finally come to a point where your concentration is on the gaps between the breaths. The gaps are simply the state of awareness. You can practice this method, twice or thrice a day. Begin slowly, once the concentration is established on the gaps, meditation will begin. Within a couple of weeks you will become more aware of your self. Its better practiced than discussed. tx.

    Not a thing Sweetie! Awareness is what you are already! It is the enormity of the thoughts and beliefs we have that tend to distract us from our nature. Investigate the question: "I am not aware" Is it a fact or is it just a belief? Can you see where you are aware? Nice huh? There is no difference between you and Jesus or the Buddha or any of the masters in this moment except for that pesky little belief "I need to be aware!" There is nothing to do except investigate the thoughts.

    Which 'my-self' is it, that you wish to become more aware of?

    Human beings carry around an infinite number of 'my-selves'.

    *What can one do to make one-self more intently aware, is an extremely important question.

    There is a great deal to become aware of, contained within the life of a human being.

    One must first awaken, from ones slumber.

    It serves no purpose to sleep ones life away.

    99.99% of all human beings are asleep even when they appear to be awake.

    Example: Most human beings are totally unaware of their own breath.

    The breath is so easily taken for granted.

    Awareness can be first experienced when one is finally aware of ones own breath.

    ~~~~~
    Become aware of each inhalation...
    Become aware of each exhalation...
    Become aware of exactly when the breath begins...
    Become aware of exactly when the breath ends...
    Understand the cycle of the breath...
    What does the breath take in?
    What does the breath get rid of or eliminate?
    ~~~~~

    That is but the beginning of subtle awareness.

    While one is alive the human breath is a known constant.

    How can the subtle awareness of the human breath be utilized by a human being?

    How can a human being best utilize something that is a known constant?

    Are there any other known constants within the life of a human being?

    This known constant disappears only when one is no longer living, is it not so?

    The breath is a measuring device that can be utilized to measure ones awareness.

    Question - What can one do to make one-self more aware?

    Response - Further understand and gain a greater knowledge of ones breath.

    There are 43,242 breaths inhaled and exhaled, daily...

    Beginning at the age of (30) thirty and after continuing (37) thirty seven years of steady practice, this old fool has gained only a small amount of awareness.

    Becoming aware requires practice, determination, and great patience.

    Peace be always with you.

    Fasting is a Biblical concept, as is God. As an agnostic, it sounds as if you have little to no knowledge of God, God's word, or God's will for your life. I cannot imagine that you can just ***** nilly grab a concept out of the Bible, like fasting, and use it outside the realm of God's will for you and have it do anything for you. That's like asking: Are titanium clubs good? But instead of wanting to use them for golf, you want to use them to prepare meals. Whoever said they were good would be like ... well, I didn't mean for that! So, my answer to you is simply this: Without God, fasting will mean nothing to you. Without God, your spiritual journey is a road to nowhere. Pick up your Bible and begin reading, friend. ALL of your answers can be found in God's word! Get off your butt and get into a good Bible-believing, God-fearing church. Talk to Christians! Talk to God, even if you aren't sure He's there! He'll answer you! Lord bless.

    You cannot make yourself aware. You have to be aware.

    I'll give you a simple spirit'ual method. make a 60 ml peg of Scotch and add 2 cubes of ice. Wait for 3 mts...let it dissolve...after that.. smell the drink and enjoy the smell...imbibe it deeply within...just imagine that you have become that drink..feel it flow within you...and when you are about to take the first sip, simply throw the booze into the wash basin...and walk out of the door...and look at the night sky...standing still...at that particular moment...become aware...

    Your this question itself is a good gesture. You are on the right track. Great people advise us to be a silent listner or witness everything that is happening around us rather than a lecturer. And to contemplate on the essence of yourself. Think about who you are and about your identity. Be not reluctant to to the association of wise and enlightened souls. Practise chanting your favorite God's name mentally while inhaling and exhaling the breathe. My views.

    You don't have to believe in Christianity to follow this counsel that

    Jesus gave because I think He said it best.

    He said 'watch' and watch means like a watchman, like those people

    who do reconnaissance or like tracking things. It's necessary to do that.

    Drifting, letting the mind just 'wander' can really be damaging.

    Then Jesus said, 'pray' and He also put those two together.

    So then what I 'watch', I should pray about, then see what

    happens and back and forth it goes.

    Also, slowing down, because if our mind or self is going too fast,

    how do we notice anything?

    I have to work on these things also, but it's really important

    to do this.

    1) Know yourself.

    2) Make truth more important to yourself than your self-image.

    3) Love

    4) Don't judge in terms of good or bad, yourself or others.

    5) Identify with more than just "yourself". Expand.

    There is far more, but that's a basic beginning.
