How do I find out what program is hogging my computer's resources?

Whenever I boot up my computer, the LED indicator next to the cylinder is on for over 20 minutes, so my computer is busy with I dont know what. Is there a way to have task manager or something tell me what program is hogging up my computer's resources? How do I do that? 20 minutes of being unable to do anything is annoying. I have windows 7, 64 bit.

By pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, you will be able to see which processes are using what portion of your memory and processing power, but you are not able to easily see which are interacting with your hard drive.

Typically the light with 'the cylinder' represents Hard Drive activity. To the best of my knowledge there is no easy way to watch processes interactions with the hard drive. I would recommend watching task manager for high CPU or memory usage to determine the culprit in this case.

Might not even be a program of yours, its a good chance its a websites server not your stuff. Many sites have a server issue nothing to do with yours. Really most sites don,t fix it even when u call em to tell em they got isses to fix but these days nobody gives a damn to help in any way cuz they ain't gona fired for not upgrading a server they think is acceptable cuz in their mind atleast it works, even though it works like **** but it does work so why fix a thing at all as long as it can run. They don't care cuz they still get that paycheck doing the least amount of work possible. No offense but its likely you will have to do their job & figure out if its yours or something else you have no access to fix cuz its not yours. I hate doing other peoples jobs for their lazyb *** cuz I want optimal performance for all of mine & if I have to do it then oh well cuz I want what I want & I'm capable but takes a bit to do what's needed to figure out which is causing the core problem & waitng for the things I gota run to find out annoys the **** outa me. Hate wasting my time on something an employee is suppose to do as a job
