40-90 years from now based on other wedge issues between the time when they became popular to the time when it became policy.
Prohibition--50 years between start of Temperance movement and implementation of the 18th Amendment.
Gay marriage--50 years between Stonewall Riots and start of first state gay marriage legalizations. I estimate it will be another 20 years for the federal government to recognize gay marriage.
Voting for blacks--100 years between end of the Civil War and Voting Rights Act.
Voting for women--60 years between start of the Suffragette movement and the 19th amendment.
