My monitor isn't detecting my computer. Help?

I just got a new Dell desktop computer and my old (I've had it for a while) Dell monitor won't detect it. I've plugged the monitor into a laptop of mine (an Acer) and it was working fine.

After I turned on the desktop computer it started making beeping sounds for a couple of seconds though.

So, is the Dell desktop PC I just recently bought not working correctly or...?

Update:

It's VGA.

Intel GMA 950 graphics.

Here is a couple things that might work.

o Plug it in and restart your computer.

o Go download the latest drivers for that monitor.

o Try another monitor, I know that one works, but maybe its an odd compatibility issue.

o Are you plugging into the motherboard or the graphic card? Try both.

The motherboard one is the VGA/DVI port thats next to all the USB ports, headphone/mic jacks, ethernet(internet) cable, etc. If that doesn't work then you may need to contact support about your motherboard.

The graphic card will be further down on the tower. It will be in the metal slats, if you do not see any ports down there, then you don't have a graphics card. If you, try those ports, if they don't work, make sure your graphics card drivers are fully update as well.

Hopefully my suggestions helped, if they didn't, do contact Dell Support and have them replace or fix the problem.

If it's making the high pitched sound at start up and it's not loading up correctly, then you may have a harddrive problem. If you can't view anything from the monitor, then you may need to download the monitor drivers. I don't know why but some monitors need drivers installed so that it can communicate with the monitor. Maybe have a pc tech look at your pc to see what's the problem is if it's making weird sounds like that, expecially when it's a new computer.

those hotkey mixtures basically artwork on computing device's, so a strategies as i understand. attempt this: make particular the television is on, and its enter is desperate to the HDMI port, before booting the computing device. as quickly as booted, bypass into the show settings and consider to work out if the different computer screen exhibits up, you have have been given to enable that computer screen manually. If that doesn't artwork, then according to risk your DVI to HDMI cable isn't working.
