Help, how does one break an egg without getting pieces of eggshell in the egg?

I watch chefs on TV break eggs all day long and they never seem to have this problem. 9 times out of 10 when I break an egg I get one or two tiny pieces of eggshell in the egg. I generally just bang the side of the egg on the edge of the pot or bowl, split it apart and dump in the egg. What am I doing wrong?

apparently you're hitting it too hard, just crack it a little then pull the two pieces apart with your hands

Rather than breaking the egg on the side of a dish or cup break it on a flat surface like the counter top. This prevents shard of the egg from being driven into the egg.

If you get a piece of shell in use the edge of the eggshell to get it out. For some reason the shard of shell is attracted to the shell and it will go into it. Just place the large part of the shell right nest to the shard and the shard will float into the open part of the shell.

Like all things to be perfect even like breaking the egg with one hand or two hands take practice. For beginners, try to crack the egg on the edge of a bowl not too hard as to break the shell into pieces, just to crack open the egg, in a bowl one at a time each time remove any shard then transfer the york and albumin into another bowl. Until you get the hang of it then you can crack and break the egg into one bowl. Since egg can cause many sickness when left unclean it's best to do it in a bowl for easy clean up

Tap the egg on a flat surface so that fewer small pieces of shell are created.

Hitting too hard...or too soft..will cause that to happen. A nice quick crack against the side.
