Does more RAM slows down CPU?

I want to buy a gaming laptop and the best performance out of it. I dont wether to put 16GB of ram or 8GB of ram. Both ram speeds are the same (1600mhz). I wont be doing any heavy ram needing tasks. So my question is if i put more ram will it become a load for the processor. I just want to get the best out of my laptop for gaming.

Specs:

I7-3820QM

Radeon 7970m

8/16 GB RAM

Intel SSD 480GB

Okay. If you're gaming nowadays then yes, you are doing heavy ram needing tasks. Unused ram won't slow down your computer, but it won't speed it up either, simple as that. Also, I agree with the person above me, it's... what, 2012?

No. Quite the opposite more RAM is always better. Always!!! when you talk about bottle necks you are talking about 2 processors not cooperating. One will give out more information thenthe other can handle. This happens When people buy expansive next gen video card but still have pentium D installed.

Ram doesn't have a processors so it doesn't have the means to fores more data no CPU. CPU will only use the amount it needs. but some times CPU will request some amount date that it going to work on and finish working on it before it can break a sweat so it will request again. So think withe me, if you have moreRAM CPU can request a bigger chunk to work on, and not going to need to request for longer period of time. there for increasing its productivity

and why are all this people pose on Computers & Internet section ↑ from the earliest computer science books they always told as how it's a very good idea to add more RAM, it will speed up your computer response... Shore now days there's so much you can add without spending too much money, but most people don't need 16+ GB, 6+ GB is a way to go.

The short answer is no. More RAM never hurts. The long answer is that depending upon the way the system board is constructed, some combinations of RAM are slower than other combinations of RAM.

Best to avoid the entire issue by getting a well designed system from Apple rather than some questionable system. Making the parts work together correctly gets better performance than just sticking a bunch of parts in a box because they have the highest advertised numbers. Then there's build quality, stability, user experience, and support all of which are more important to your enjoyment of the computer than the numbers on the box.

If I were you I would just stick with 8gb of RAM, I havnt seen one game that requires more than 4GB of RAM, you would be better off too upgrade the processor than the RAM anyway. But no, adding more RAM does not stress the processor :)

  • More RAM is better, almost all laptops now come with 4GB or 8GB of RAM.

    Hey,

I recommend to clean up the register in order to improve your pc performances and get rid of malwares. A good program you can use is CCleaner http://bit.ly/UrAyEQ

    Give it a try.
