Is my Cocker Spaniel a cocker spaniel?
I have a cocker spaniel and he has side burns/like that are like a white colour and he has a really fluffy coat like a teddy bear. He is golden in colour and is 8 months old. My mam and I bought him at a pet store and He has a piece of paper saying he is one but I'm not too sure considering his coat is so different to other cocker Spaniels. So I'm just wondering is he a true English cocker spaniel or is he mixed with some other breed? Xx

He sounds like a Cocker Spaniel...American or English. You may never truly know though because he is from a pet store. Dogs baught from pet stores come from Puppy Mills. Puppy Mills are very run down areas that keep hundreds of dogs just to breed over and over again. They are poorly kept and hardly get any any attention. Because of this you can not really tell if he is purebred.
Hope this helped :)

How the heck can we tell you with out a picture? If you bought it from a Pet Store then it is probably from a puppy mill. For all you know it could be a mutt that looks like Cocker Spaniel. Puppy mills often forge Kennel Club Papers. If you wanted a Purebred, well bred dog then you should have went to a reputable breeder and not some slimeball puppy mill storefront.

You've asked this SAME question, twice, in a matter of one minute. You do know that asking the same question, more than once, is considered to be rant/chat and is reportable.
How would anyone know if your dog is a purebred Cocker Spaniel? This is not a psychic site. Shame on you and your Mom for supporting puppy mills, and backyard greeders by purchasing a pup from a pet store.

This is why you shouldn't buy dogs at pet stores because you never know what breed they are.
If he's big enough to be a Cocker Spaniel, then he probably is one.
If he's small at eight months then he's either a different breed or a crossbreed.

When you buy from a pet shop (worse place to buy ANY pet) you end up with very poor quality dogs from a puppy mill or backyard breeder and the papers are often fake/forged. Even if they are legit, most likely the dog has come from a puppy mill and not only is poor quality, but will end up with a lot of genetic and health problems.
Most important is to have him neutered NOW and never bred him.
We stopped in a local pet shop (just to look cause I never buy anything in there) and they had a CKC (Continental KC which is a fake/bogus/worthless registery) Italian Greyhound. The dog looked so bad and not even close to what it should look like, my husband didn't know what it was! And he really doesn't know breeds. I came home and showed him online what the breed is supposed to look like!

Maybe he's an American Cocker Spaniel, instead of the English one.

Purebred and poorly bred. Pet stores buy from wholesale suppliers, i/e puppy mills.
