Is the voltage regulator on my '79 Mercedes Benz 450SL integrated into the alternator?
If it isn't in the alternator then where is it located? I don't see anything on or near the fire wall that resembles any voltage regulator that I have seen in the past & I need to get it checked out because I am having to jump start my car almost every time it sits more than an hour or so. PLEASE no SMART *** answers I need to get this car running & can't pay a garage $80.00per hour to do it. I have always done my own mechanics before & am very good at it but this is a Benz & is all new to me. I need help!!

The regulator is indeed attached to the alternator. It is held on with two screws and right behind it and sticking out of it are the brushes. When you replace it you have to be careful to insert the brushes properly so that they contact the armature in the alternator properly. If the alternator is draining your battery overtime, replacing the regulator will not help. The rectifier bridge inside the alternator is usually what causes a drain if it is indeed the alternator that is the problem. I would be looking for a bulb that is left on somewhere after you shut the car off.

what is the voltage output when it is running? Have you checked? You probably have a completely different issue.
