Pls Help! Is this a Moral dilemma?

I'm beginning to accept the assertion that I have no moral compass because I'm a atheits. So for once, I am asking for opinions, and I have decided that in the instance B.A. of yahoo answers rules.

So... my dilemma...

I'm cooking a live lobster for dinner. The book says, so as not to be cruel, I should first put the lobster in an ice bath to calm it down and slow its reflex reactions ... and then throw it in the boiling water...

I instinctively disagree. I mean... would you prefer to be thrown in an ice bath shivering until you're almost dead and then tossed into a boiling pot of water... or would you prefer to go straight for the hot bath instead of suffering the freezing part first?

I was thinking... "what would Jesus do"... but then I remembered that he was Jewish and therefore wouldn't be eating crustaceans.

So... all you lobster feasters... what's the humane thing to do?

We boil 'em in Night Train here in the trailer park. We know they die happy.

Love little fishies, don't eat them. Sea food is the sole food on this planet that only tastes good if it doesn't taste like fish. That ought to tell you something. But if you absolutely must, take a .22 caliber handgun and blow its little lobster head off first. Then you can skip the ice bath. This should be quite quick and painless for the poor little doomed crustacean, who most likely has little crustaceans of its own who are now left on their own to fend for themselves in a cold, cruel sea. It's just sad all around.

Atheists know the difference between right and wrong.

Why would you question your own set or moral rules?

I would never consider eating a alobster but I thought I heard that you stick a small knife or pin in its neck and it kills it quickly. Then drop it into the boiling water .

Oh. I just googled it. Yuck. You split the head between the eyes. Now I know I would never eat it.

    THe freezing desensitizes it.

When you put it in the boiling water you will hear a screaming sound.

OK ---------------- I will now definitely become a vegetarian.

The normal habitat for lobsters is cold water so an ice bath will do them no harm. It is thought more humane to put them in the freezer for half an hour before boiling them. If you don't slow them down, they tend to thrash around a bit when you drop them in the water and this splashes boiling water around which is dangerous for you.

Lobster is food, Lobster is supposed to be cooked, and to be ate. Your not doing anything heroic by throwing it in a pile of ice. Just put that thing in a pot of boiling water and eat it god damnit.

(sorry if I was a little too straight forward)

Set him FREE! take a drive to the ocean and give him a tender hug, take his rubber bands off his claws and set him into the water and watch him swim away, happily.

    Brightest Blessings,

    Raji the Green Witch

OR you can set him free in a tub of melted butter and let your friends have at him.

    Whichever is the most entertaining.

Just throw them in the hot water. I tried to be humane and chill the last bunch in the freezer and what did they do? I opened the fridge door to find they had eaten my steaks as a last supper.

Yes... What would a peace loving Jesus god do?

Throw them in the boiling water while chanting the verse below.

Psalms 137: 8-9-"O Daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, Happy the one who repays you as you have served us! Happy the one who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock!"

Do what the cook book says and just enjoy. Don't over think everything.

I heard that if you put them in normal tap water then put them on the heat they will not know its getting hotter, until it too late.

May the Lord be with you
