What is there to do in Virginia Beach?

Im moving to Virginia in 4 days and I was just wonder what is there to do out there, particularly in the norfolk region. What is the nightlife like, how are the people, does it really feel like being in the south, is it diverse, what are some good restaurants, some good malls, churches, etc I'll be living out there for two years so can someone tell me what to expect

Yak is right as far as he goes but it's not a very comprehensive answer. All the small cities in the Norfolk area make up a large 'city' of about a million. The area is known as Hampton Roads. No, it does not have much of a southern feel to it. Like he says there's a huge Navy presence. There seems to be a lot of diversity among the population. Now about the crime; the crime rate in VB is substantially below the US national average (see www.city-data.com). As with any metropolitan area there are areas you don't want to be in. Find out about them! Now about what to do, if you like baseball there's the AAA Tides and a minor league hockey team. There are bike paths all over the place. see www.vbgov.com and look for bikeways and trails. If you kayak or canoe you can put in at first Landing State Park and navigate Broad Bay. See the bikeways map. Between Labor Day and Memorial Day the concrete Boardwalk is a great place to cycle, roller blade and skate board. The spot for surfing is down at Rudee Inlet on the lower end of the Boardwalk. If you like saltwater fishing there are loads of piers, bridges and of course the beach (don't miss the pier on the first island of the Bridge Tunnel). A great place to shop is Lynhaven Mall. In downtown Norfolk Mac Arthur Center boasts over 140 stores. Places to eat: Try Mahi Mah's on the Boardwalk near 8th Street, across the street is the Black Angus. It's also good. Try the Surf Club Ocean Grill in the Wyndham Hotel at 57th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Oh, out at the first island of the Bridge tunnel is a good restaurant run by the same family that owns the Black Angus. One last thing. The Beach Pub at 1001 Laskin Road is a must. Breakfast, lunch and dinner and a beer joint at night. It's been around 50 years, friendly and family owned. For breakfast you gotta try the clam fritters. They are my favorite, my wife can't stand them. lol You make the call. You will have a good time in Virginia Beach and all Hampton Roads if you give it a chance.

Virginia Beach is nice but you have to be extremely careful about where you go, especially at night. There are some VERY high crime areas. The area has a huge military presence.
