Capital One- is this a scam?
Today I got 3 calls from Capital One on my cell phone. The first was extremely early in the morning and the latest was at 8 at night. First of all it's Sunday, so it's strange to me that it would even be open at 8pm on Sunday.
The first call was from 813-202-7244 (a florida number, I don't live in florida), the caller left a message saying "Hi this is Linda. We would like to discuss solutions regarding an important business matter with Capital One" asking me to call them back at 866-953-7906. It seemed sketchy to me, mainly because I don't even have any accounts AT ALL with capital one so I didn't call them back. Then they called me two more times from 866-381-0453.
Is this a phishing scam? Has it happened to anybody else? Should I just ignore them or report it somewhere? Does this mean someone can be using an account in my name?
Thanks.
Thanks for the answers so far! ...I've actually had this cell phone number for about 11 years now, so I don't think it's an old # for someone who owes them money (which is why I was kind of worried someone opened an account in my name or something).
Reena...thank you so much for your help so far...
I'm sorry to sound stupid but I don't know much about this, I'm a recent college graduate who just started working so I'm new at all this (I got my cell phone when I was like 11 which is why I've had the # for 11 years lol) ...
I checked my free credit report.
It says:
There are 0 potentially negative accounts and 7 accounts in good standing (none of these 7 being capital one).
I DID see the capital one requested to view my credit history in Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec of 2011 but so did other companies i.e. American Express that I do not do any business with. Does this mean anything?
Thanks.

The call is NOT from Capital One. This SCAM has been common for YEARS. They have claimed to represent EVERY bank on the planet at one time or another. Anyone it HASN'T happened to doesn't have a phone.
My favorite is the call from 'account services' about my 'current credit card account'. I haven't had a credit card for more than 3 years.
If ANY financial institution contacts you for ANY reason, the FIRST thing they will do is identify the financial institution they are calling form. The SECOND thing they will do is confirm YOU are the person they attempting to contact by using YOUR name. If they say ANYTHING else before doing BOTH of the above, it is a scam. Doing both does not guarantee it is not a scam, but failing to do so guarantees it is.
Also note: A legitimate financial institution will NEVER ask for personal information if they contacted you. They will ONLY ask if you contacted them. You should NEVER contact them except by using a PUBLISHED number. Any number provided by someone that contacted you is part of the scam.
Note2: If the inquiries are 'soft' inquiries, that means your account match criteria they submitted for to send 'pre-qualified' offers. If they are 'hard' inquiries, that indicates someone applied for credit using your information. The credit report should clearly indicate the type of inquiry.

I would avoid the phone calls. Just log in directly into your credit card account to check for any issues. If you need to call them then do so by calling the number on their website. Don't even answer phone calls from people claiming to be from banks, credit card companies, etc... often they are con artists that are trying to scam you.
Credit card companies will just send you a email and letter reminding you if you forgot to make a payment.

Personally, I wouldn't touch it. It's a get-rich-quick-scheme. The site has been around for less than a year. The "About Us" section of the website says absolutely NOTHING about them. Not who they are, their address, their phone number, nada; everything is how they are "guaranteed" to make you money. The only address they give (306 Victoria House, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles) is not an office for a company. It's a mail-forwarding office--the address is used by several get-rich-quick internet sites as well as a online drug store that claims to be in Canada. Other entries on the web suggest the owners are in other countries.

Join the club... there is even a blog site for people that have been harassed by Capitol One using that number:

It seems that "Linda" has been a very busy lady:

Most likely you just got this cell phone number and it once belonged to somebody that owed money to Capitol One. Your best bet is to get another phone number.
In that case I would suggest you check your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com to make sure that you don't have a Capitol One account that was opened behind your back.

It means that someone falsely (either a mistake or a lie; I can't tell) gave Capital One your phone number instead of their own.

Teach a person to fish.....
I searched 813-202-7244 in a search engine and then the other. These were the first two links. Search for more and you will find out more information

They might simply have the wrong number, I would call back to see what they want at least. If anything, they can take you off their calling list.
