Why do proponents of evolution misrepresent history?
Asking what Medical Breakthroughs evolution can be credited with here is one response:
"Who knows, even the smartest people can sometimes be blinded by wishful thinking. It doesn't change the fact that the study of the mutations of microorganisms and the genetics of more complicated organisms are exactly what allows medical scientists to engineer bacteria that can produce medicine like penicillin or create immunizations from neutralized bacteria. It also gives insight into how and why viruses evolve and build up resistance to medicine and how to possibly counter those effects."
The reality is penecillin is still produced by molds their original source. Erethromyocin is produced by genetically engineered bacteria, but it was genetics not evolution that was behind this breakthrough.
The First vaccine to be widely distributed was for small pox and that was 60 yeas before Darwin's theory. Obviously evolution can not be given credit for breakthroughs that happened before the theory even existed.
The fact is none of these advances can be directly linked to evolutionary biology and none of the scientists behind them were evolutionary biologists. If there were real breakthroughs that can be credited to evolutionary biology, why rewrite history and make stuff up?
Mark IX: No I am not kidding the Cowpox vaccine was distributed in Spain in 1803 half a century before Darwin published is paper - obviously Darwin's theory had nothing to do with the development of vaccines!
L: That is exactly my point. A person is trying to assert these breakthroughs are directly the result of evolutionary theory. They obviously are not. I am not trying to discredit evolution in this case, I am challenging the notion that these particular breakthroughs can be credited to evolutionary theory.
Blaise Rascal: Straw man is predicated on misrepresenting the other persons argument. The quoted portion is exactly what the other person said! You can't assert straw man if you are quoting the other persons argument exactly!

Let me be clear, the evolutionary model can be credited with some advances in science. No question about that. But it cannot be credited with being behind any of those listed by this person. The reason this was posted here is th response came from a message here.

So before the theory of gravity was discovered people just floated off somewhere then!
So before the theory light waves it was completely dark?
So before the theory evolution nothing evolved so since the so called creation was long over where did all the new species come from?
But thanks for a clear demonstration of why creationists are so wrong and so unchristian!
The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept the big bang and evolution!
Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!
Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at fundie expense!
But behind the laughter is the despair at the fundamentalists striving so hard to destroy christianity by turning it from a religion to an ideology!
Surveys suggest that 29% of American christians are so extremist in their beliefs that they fall well outside of the accepted bounds of christianity!
Please state which extremist sect you belong to so that GOOD christians can disassociate themselves from you and explain why your sect is so at odds with Christianity!
Just another fundamentalist striving so hard to destroy christianity by turning it from a religion to an ideology!

Cite your sources please. I don't think what you are talking about is credited to evolutionary biology. Only medical science. Sounds more like you are trying to find a way to discredit evolution. Something that is considered a widely accepted fact and is probably the best tested theory in the world. Also you are talking about evolution in religion forums. Hmm.....

The first breakthrough occurred when both the bacteria and th cure for any "bacteria that is subsequently growing in the wrong places" was created.
