I can't figure out how to download video's from my memory card to my computer.?

I am trying to download the pictures and video's from my camera memory card to my computer. It is downloading my pictures without any problem BUT for some reason it will not download my video's. I keep getting a message about the video's being MTS files. I have no clue what that is.

I'm trying to download this stuff to my 2 year old Dell and it won't work. It's strange though because when I tried to download everything to my wife's 3 year old ASUS the video's worked fine.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Why can't I download the video's successfully to my Dell? If you know of anything I can try I'd love to get your thoughts!

THANKS

Tell you what. Buy a usb card reader, they're not expensive, about $10 and are available where ever cameras are sold. Most of us regulars here wouldn't be without a reader... I've been using them for years.

A reader makes it so simple because your XP computer will see a reader as an external drive so all you do is copy / paste to the folder of your choice.

Your videos are in the AVCHD codec...which are the MTS files. Have you tried using a card reader? I think you will have much more success transferring your (most likely, quite large) video files to your computer. If your computer doesn't have a built-in reader, you can buy a USB card reader for only a few dollars. Just make sure it's compatible with your memory card. Whether you computer's processor/video card/RAM is good enough to process/view these files is another matter...

Have you tryed just dragging and dropping them from the SD card to the folder you want?

Have you have the recent updates for Windows XP?
