How can I protect myself when downloading torrents?

Specifically, from any copyright monitor that would notify my ISP in the event that I inadvertently engage in illegal file sharing.

I haven't used torrents in awhile, so I'm a little out of the loop. I used to use Peer Guardian, but it wasn't completely effective.

They'll only investigate you when your own ISP wonders why you've been hitting their bandwidth cap every month. For most high end ISP packages its 250-300GB cap. Every once in awhile they'll do a security audit, but very rarely. Also don't seed, just leech.
