Confused. Can sallie mae do this?
I have had a student loan with sallie mae since 2008. I am currently on summer vacation until I start back up school in fall. I have never done summer school and have never had to pay anything to Sallie Mae. They recently told me that I have to start paying since I have the summer off and can only defer my payments one time. Again, in the last 4 years I never had to pay anything. I explained to them I dont have the money so they said I could pay $100 fee to put it in forbearance for 3 months.
Why now all of a sudden are they telling me I cant defer it, and saying I only have one chance to defer it when Ive defered it every summer since 2008?
Any info would be great.

Because by now you should have graduated.
The fact that it's taking you more than 4 years to graduate, and that you've goofed off every summer, is YOUR problem and nobody else's.
If you have the money to "go on vacation" then you have the money to start repaying your student loans. Get a job!

maybe its because you started school 4 years ago so you should have finished after this spring. So they may think you graduated, You should call your schools fin. aid office and ask them
