he started off really keen, saying he wanted to catch up etc, then as soon as i was ok with seeing him again and we settled on a date he texts me day of saying he can't make it, 'something's come up'. since i am moving far away at the end of the month that is pretty much leaving it. is this common when you arrange to meet an ex? i have had other exes get in touch in the past but never responded until now.

He's just playing games. For some reason he's your ex. And you're not supposed to go back to him. Just ignore him. Specially now that you two areoing to be miles away from each other.
