Do you give your baby the vitamin drops issued by healthystart?
with vitamins a, c and d. My health visitor gave them to me and insists that i use them. I never used them on my first 2 kids, and they seem healthy enough. If you do give them to your baby, do you think they work and do you think 5 drops is a bit much for a baby?
@Umm Isa - that's exactly what i thought! thanks :-)

Breast milk provides everything a baby needs. Even if a baby is formula fed I can't see why vitamin drops would be necessary or even advisable. Although vitamin C is water soluble, vitamins A and D can be dangerous, so I really wouldn't want to risk giving them to a baby. Just tell your health visitor you are giving them, and then bin them.
Years ago a formula manufacturer in the UK discovered there was vitamin D in breast milk, so decided to add it to their formula. But they added too much and thousands of babies were ill and some died, before it was discovered what was causing the problem. I really do think it is risky to give extra vitamin D to a baby.

Healthy starts own recommendation is that they are given to babies who consume less than 500ml of formula a day. There is no risk of overdoing the doses by giving a child/baby 5 drops, for example vit d needs very excessive amounts long term to be dangerous at all, you would not get anywhere close to it. Personally I'd say do what you are happiest with, as long as your child is eating adequately there is no reason to worry, I've learnt to take what my health visitor says with a pinch of salt as no two babies are the same.
