Ways to lose weight on a treadmill?
I've just started going to the gym about 5 days ago, and I really want to lose about 10 pounds before September (when I return to school). I'm 14 years old and I'm 5'1". My weight fluctuates a lot, but I usually weigh 124-128. I want to go down to about 110 or 115.
Right now, i've just been walking on the treadmill, no running, but I'm open to that idea. I walk at 4.2mph.

There are no good way to lose fat on a treadmill. However, if you're going to use a treadmill, don't run, walk. At your age you need to establish good fitness practices and running is not one. Running is high impact and repetitive. Heed the following.
In this book --> http://www.bodybyscience.net/home.html/?%E2%80%A6 the coauthors make the following assertion.
"The scientific literature is filled with data that strongly make the case that long distance runners are much more likely to develop cardio-vascular disease, atrial fibrillation, cancer, liver and gallbladder disorders, muscle damage, kidney dysfunction (renal abnormalities), acute microthrombosis in the vascular system, brain damage, spinal degeneration, and germ-cell cancers than are their less active counterparts."
Each assertion is footnoted. They're making the point that most people have "cardio" all wrong and don't really understand how to train to be fit. And, the above does not even mention early onset osteoarthritis, shin splints, repetitive motion injuries, stress fractures, etc.
Any exercise will burn calories but no exercise will burn fat unless your diet allows it. You can burn fat in your sleep or you can run all day and never burn any fat. It all depends on your diet.
Fat loss is determined by calorie control, not by exercise. Good exercises for burning calories are speed walking, biking, swimming, and ANY other physical activity which makes you move a lot of weight for a long time. But NO exercise is good for burning fat if you eat too many calories because you can always eat more calories than you can burn.
Too many people waste energy and time because they do not understand this one simple point. The result is too often giving up in frustration, abandoning gym memberships they continue to pay for, and many other unnecessary problems not the least of which is a lack of success.
An average person must walk about five miles every day of the week to burn the calories equivalent to a pound of body fat. So, unless you think walking five miles a day or doing that amount of exercise is for you, focus your fat loss program on diet.
Diet for fat loss. Exercise for fitness.

You have one body and it has to last a lifetime. It has no choice but to follow your brain. The road to health and fitness begins with a steady diet of good information so study long and hard. Don't put your trust in random strangers of unknown credibility in this or other internet forums. Find good resources for information such as school classes, adult ed, libraries or bookstores but be careful when surfing the internet because it's saturated with profit driven bad information. Study, learn, apply and make your body the best body it can be.
Good luck and good health!!

Hey(:
I found that running in intervals of running very fast(level 5-6) for one minute then slowing down(level 3-4_ for two minutes really kills the fat. Do this for 20 minutes and you will look awesome for school this fall!(:
