How many years would it take for the Earth to recover from pollution?

This is for a story I'm writing, hence the weird question.

If pollution and whatnot reached a level where scientists predicted that Earth would soon be uninhabitable, and virtually the entire human race left the planet, approximately how long would it take for the Earth, left on its own, to fully recover?

In life after people it's about 50 years if every single person disapperaed this instant. (not counting the effects of all the nuclaer power plants exploding cause that would make the whole earth radioactive) But science has predicted that the 2nd phase of the ice age will happen in about 10 000 years (the first phase was about 8000 years ago.)
