Should I retake a class I earned a C in?

I'm returning to college this fall after a three year hiatus. I'll be attending community college, and my goal is to work as hard as possible to bring my gpa up and transfer after one year. Since I'm still considered a returning student I have credit for previous coursework. I was wondering if it would be possible to retake some of the classes I earned a C in to boost my GPA. Does anyone have experience with this?

Most colleges will not let you retake a class if you earned a C or higher in it. Even if they will allow it, you cannot use financial aid to pay for any retakes of a class you passed (only if you failed). So if you can, and it's not a good idea (looks bad to grad schools) you'll have to pay for it yourself.

yeah I hear you. I tried chemistry & it was HARD, so instead I took Biology 1 & 2- it was 1107 & 1108 at our college. I took those two courses instead of all the chemistry. I had the choice of taking either 2 bios or 2 chems. Definitely speak with an advisor before you finalize your decision. A higher grade in Chemistry will look better but it all depends on the prerequisites required by the school you're looking at for Nursing. The best of luck girl! You got this! Study hard & don't be afraid to ask your advisors questions-that's their job. and what Kenzie said is true. They will be looking at your final GPA. I haven't encountered a lot of chem so far but I'm only 2nd year.

if your college allows it you can retake it, but you need to consider that while the grade would be replaced on your transcript both will be counted against your GPA. so even if you make an A this time it will average out to a B on your transcript.

I haven't retaken any classes, but you should be able to retake any class you want to.
