How do I or any tips and tricks for direct object nouns and pronouns?

I am in spanish 101 and I am having trouble with the concept of direct object pronouns and how to correctly answer these types of questions. So I did not know if someone out there had a better explanation, example or some tips and tricks to doing this. Here is my books example:

Maribel hace las maletas

Maribel las hace.

¿Vas a ver a Mauricio? Are you going to see Mauricio?

Sí, lo voy a ver. / Sí, voy a verlo Yes, I'm going to see him

¿Están limpiando la casa? Are they cleaning the house?

Sí, la están limpiando. / Sí, están limpiándola Yes, they're cleaning it

They are stated before the verb and attached to the infinitive. They must indicate masculinity or femininity.
