Something's wrong with my dog's back legs.?

My dog is a small dog, a puggle. He recently ruptured a disc in his spine, the vet gave us Oral Prednisone to help heal it.

Over the couse of about 6 days it worked, however today i picked him up to place him on my lap, then put him back down. When i did so he walked under the table and began to whimper.

I realized his legs were hurt, he cannot walk, he stands limply crossing both legs with his tail inbetween, and refuses to move.

What's wrong with him? Should i take him to the emergency vet?

If he suddenly cannot walk but he could before, the disc rupture has gotten worse and putting enough pressure on the spine that he cannot move his legs. Yes, emergency vet now! If he still can feel pain in his bones, there is a good chance that surgery to relieve the pressure in the spine will help him. Since he worsened while on the pred, medical therapy isn't going to work. Medical therapy is usually used along with very strict rest, not letting the dog walk around or picking it up or letting it go up and down stairs and such in order to let the back rest. The surgery can cost from $4000 up, but its unlikely that any medical therapy is going to do the job now since he has already been on the steroid. Surgery will NOT work if he has already lost the deep pain in his legs or if you wait to have it done. It must be done quickly after the paralysis has started to work or the spine can be permanently damaged by the pressure of the ruptured disc. Good luck@!

regrettably, the in user-friendly terms thanks to entice close for useful what's incorrect along with your domestic dog is to take him to the vet. If it were my canines and it replaced into limping and/or carry his paw interior the air i'd: a million. look to be certain if he had some thing in it. 2. i'd video reveal the habit to be certain if the domestic dog did all of it the time or in user-friendly terms some cases - if in certain cases i'd observe at the same time as he did it. 3. i'd attempt touching the leg to be certain what type of reaction I were given from him. 4. i'd take him to the vet for a acceptable analysis. Your canines ought to have purely sprained his leg or he ought to have torn a cruciate ligament. there is not any possible way of understanding while not having a vet look him over. in the experience that your canines has a bent to bounce or run a lot, then it will be a torn cruciate ligament. this isn't an uncommon problem in a lot of canines - fairly lively ones. The cruciate ligament is largely a knee damage for a canines and there are some recommendations that ought to correctly be carried out to fix it. good success along with your domestic dog - i am hoping he's feeling more suitable effectual quickly.

Get him down the vets! Disc disease can come back very quickly, if another or the same disc has ruptured it puts pressure on the spinal cord (cutting off the circulation to the spine). The longer it's left the greater the risk of permanent spinal damage. The earlier it's treated the better!

Only a vet can tell you what's wrong with him. If he can't walk, he's moving around with his legs crossed or dragging his back legs, then I'm sure it's very difficult for him to move. He's in pain and he's in serious trouble. It's pretty obvious that he needs an Emergency Vet NOW. Take him in!

Yes, you should take him to the emergency vet. It sounds like you hurt his back by picking him up.
