Has anyone ever done the defend, challenge, qualify essay about tv affecting presidential elections?

I have to write a defend, challenge, qualify essay as summer work for my english class next year. I sort of understand the concept and i have my ideas pretty much laid out, as well as sources picked out, but im just a little confused on how to construct the paper. My teacher last year did not much get into that stuff and my next teacher is really tough, since the class is basically equivalent to freshman composition of college, im taking Honors English Language and Composition. If anyone has ever done this particular essay or is very familiar with the type, please explain. i have chosen to challenge the claim that television has a positive impact on presidential elections.
