IN YOUR OPINION, DO YOU THINK IT REALLY MATTERS?
Do you think it really matters what ethnic background a president is to be successful? I have my own opinion, but I would like the opinion of others.

Of course it doesn't matter.
The Republicans insist they're not racist (and most of them aren't) but you can see they tried as hard as they could to make Obama's race a major factor in the 2008 election. They couldn't just come out and say 'Hey, you don't want a black guy for president do you?' so instead they worked as hard as they could on 'not like us' issues, insisting that Obama was a Muslim and not born in the US, and stuff like that.

A president's ethnic background has nothing to do with his or her success. If he or she has the right ideas, and can act on them, then he or she is successful.
Obviously right is a point of view, but if the president can deliver on promises then he or she is usually considered successful. Assuming the promises are benefiting the country, which they usually are.
A president's ethnic background may win or lose him or her some votes, but does not determine whether or not her or she is successful.

In general, a president's ethnic backgound doesn't matter. What matters, though, is how others react to the president's ethnicity. Their biases can play strongly into whether they support or oppose a president, and this can directly affect how successful a president is.

Not being from a white ethnic background might provide America with a new vision that would benefit America.
