Liberals, did Obama gain votes from Small Business Owners with this comment?
"President Obama, in a speech to supporters, suggested business owners owe their success to government investment in infrastructure and other projects -- saying “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.”

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”
"Obama’s comment Friday during a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., came just days after he urged Congress to extend tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration only to families earning less than $250,000 annually -- part of his argument that top earners have an obligation to pay more to trim the deficit.
According to the President:
1. They didn't build their business (Government did)
2. He wants to raise their taxes
3. They are having to deal with all the health care regulations/fines/taxes
And he expects them to vote for him?

Liberals/progressives are fond of telling the lie that business owes government for infrastructure upon which commerce is built.
All liberal thought policy, values and beliefs are based on specific, fundamental, and very alluring lies. All liberal rhetoric is justification of those lies. There are no exceptions
In this case, the fundamental lie is in believing government supplies any infrastructure or help to any business. You see, The opposite is true. All wealth comes from sales. All government funds come from profits from those sales. In order for the government to get a dime, to build infrastructure, it had to take that dime away from a business who earned it. Obama should be down on his knees in adoration of business owners who have been looted for so much of the wealth he squanders on votes and trillion to give to his friends.
Obama has to incite envy, in order to do that, he has to continually produce enemies. He will produce one enemy after another. It is his key to power.

Many business owners do owe a lot ot government investment. Many have gotten govt incentives either in the form of cash or tax breaks depending on the type of business they start. I can't say it is all business that has done this, but I would assume he is speaking more to people with small businesses.
As for the internet - well that was a lot of MIT and Stanford university work - which is paid for by a combination of private and govt funds. So he was right about that to some degree. Govt money even helped provide electricity to rural areas.
People do like to believe their success is their own no matter the facts though, so I can't say it was the most intelligent thing to say. But you guys like people who stand by their beliefs no matter what, right? Like romney at the NAACP?

Obama's words should be repugnant to a paperboy.
Government in the US, going back to the Contential Congress, has never had ONE DIME except they TAX the citizens. Those roads and bridges Obama talks about weren't built with HIS money. The MONEY that built those roads and bridges was/is the TAXES WE PAY each time we gas our cars up.
Obama is as incapable of telling the truth as he is incapable of managing a lemonade stand in the front yard (for a profit). Obama has NEVER done anything to "unite" Americans; everything he says is oriented around pitching one group against another, and he "sells himself" to the "underdogs" as the "solution" to being taken advantage of by the "big people."
I, like most Americans, have worked for everything I have. I bought my first car doing odd jobs, cutting grass, shoveling snow, collecting soda bottles along the road, etc. As a teenager, I worked pumping gas in the rain, changing tires on holidays and shoveling snow evenings and weekends.
Now I have worked most everyday since 1977 (that's 35 years), I have 20+ years experience in a technical trade and make more money than my parents ever dreamed of. My home is not on Park Avenue, but it is paid for; 2 of our 3 cars are paid for, and my son will be leaving for college in a few weeks. I'm not bragging, but I think my years of hard work have earned a few tangible rewards, and we see ourselves as everyday Americans.
I'm not rich, but I've never had any sort of "government assistance."
Thanks to Obama, I don't plan on EVER being able to afford retirement. Oh, yes, I have a 401K that I've paid into for 14 years, but it's doing the same thing as the housing market, and no one is sure the bottom won't fall out from under it tomorrow like it did in 2008; or worse.
I HATE Obama and everything that man stands for.

Edit: To that Zombie who sounds like an Obama supporter, I heard the man with my own ears, I don't need you to repeat or interpret Obama's words. I know what I heard, and I just want to puke.

No, all of the same laws exist for every citizen. It takes hard work, dedication, and balls to build a small business from the ground up. All government has ever done for the small business man is to get in the way.

Government never did anything to help my business. Zip, zero, nada, nuttin. All it did was tax, regulate, and interfere.

He's figuring that if they're smart enough to start their own business, they're smart enough to understand what he's saying. And if they don't... well, small business owners are a rather small minority. The speech certainly gained support from the workers.

No.
He expects the millions of freeloaders that are his base to agree with him and vote for him.
- Anonymous9 years ago
He didn't say: "They didn't build their business (Government did)"
he said that we all have help, including some gov. help... not that the gov. did it... but it helped...
kind of a big difference there?
and cons talk about Obama's lies?

He's got balls! (in his mouth).
Source(s): Where did the government get the money to "supposedly" do all these things for business? Taxes morons. we paid for it, and we paid way more than it was worth. From the 33% that pay no taxes whatsoever? Don't think so. And this 33% that pays nothing, do they use anything that's not theirs? All day, every day. Doubletalk to confuse & subsequently rile, idiots.
