Do Mormons believe that the Garden of Eden was in Jackson Co.,Missouri?

And if so, how did all that other stuff written in Genesis happen in the Middle East?

As a Mormon I was also told that the population got shifted to the Middle East during the flood of Noah.

It's hard to realize I ever believed all this stuff.

LDS Doctrine and Covenants 77:6 - We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence

I've answered this question before. Basically there is no doctrine to that effect. The only place the Joseph identified was Adam-Ondi-Ahman, the place where Adam blessed his posterity before his death and where he will again meet with the Savior to have Sacrament with him and deliver his posterity to the Savior. We can only speculate that the other events in Adam's life, including the Garden were not that far away and because the Lord told Joseph that Independence was to be the center place for Zion, we can imagine that this place is special in the Lord's sight and may perhaps be that place which is choice above all others, including the location of the Garden. In actuallity, we do not know.

Joseph Smith established a settlement in Daviess county Missouri and taught that the Garden of Eden was somewhere in that area.

Yes, Mormon doctrine does teach this.

Mormon leaders have taught that most of the places (including major rivers) in the Middle East were renamed by Noah and his descendants after the Flood deposited them in Turkey. Apparently, prior to this event (about 2600 BC), there were no humans in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Yeah. I know. Mormon doctrine doesn't line up well with archaeological evidence in either hemisphere.

Apparently: when God kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden, he didn't just tap them with his foot. He punted!

They landed in the Middle East!

I have to go along with rac.

The only ones left after the flood was Noah's family. All of the events in the middle east, including Abraham, Israel, etc., happened long after the flood. Whether or not the Garden of Eden was in Missouri does not matter to anyone, including Mormons. Can anyone prove that it was not there?

Most people really struggle with modern day revelation. It is difficult to accept that prophets are ordinary men called to do extraordinary things. Thus, throughout history, men have accepted and relied upon the words of dead prophets but stoned the live ones. Even some members of the church today struggle if a living prophet states something new.

The apostle Peter was a fisherman by trade but was called of God after many years of apostate Israel, to establish the Christian church throughout the world. Accept for a few people, Peter was not well accepted and was eventually killed by those who accepted Abraham and Moses. Jesus Likened the scribes (men who kept and interpreted the words of dead prophets) and pharisees (church leaders who followed men's interpretations of dead prophets) to whited sephlcres filled with dead men's bones.

Today Mormons accept men who they esteem as living apostles, ordinary men called of God to establish the gospel throughout the world in preparation for the second coming of Christ. For the most part these men are rejected by millions who accept the words of dead prophets that are interpreted by modern day scribes or men who are paid to do so.

They are not really to blame. Amid the many doctrines, how could anyone know where to look for the truth? Like Jesus, you just have to exclaim "forgive them for they know not what they do".

It is taught to be in the area, yes. But it plays a very small role in LDS theology all together. See my link for more info.

The best explanation from what I've heard is that with Pangea, obviously the continents have drifted apart. It would not be too radically insane thus to state that the Garden of Eden was simply on a continent that drifted apart.

This would answer several puzzling questions.

Noah was afloat for a year. Why would he end up where he started?

Why didn't Noah see any land during that time?

Why didn't the fresh water fish and the salt water fish die off?
