Would Jesus approve of same sex marriages?

A lot of people insist that Jesus would be a liberal hippie if he were walking the Earth in human form today. Others claim that he would be a conservative. Personally, I think he would not want anything to do with either party. It has been my experience that people tend to impute their own political leanings on Jesus. Some people want to be right, no matter what the truth really is.

I don't want to start a war with anyone here. I don't mean to be hateful or oppressive. I would not intentionally harbor bigotry, or try to curtail anyone's freedoms. I think gay marriage is wrong, yes. But I lead a life of quiet desperation. I don't go out trying to legislate morality according to my own subjective views. I say let people be left to their own devices- but don't try to censor me or curtail my own freedoms granted to me by the Constitution. I have the right to express myself, so long as I am not hurting anyone.

I come to you with respect, and the desire to have a civil exchange of ideas. Please extend to me the same courtesy. There is no need for name calling or insults. No need for any bully dances. You are entitled to your own opinion equally as I am entitled to my own. Feel free to express it here without a thumbs down (from me, at least).

If you support same sex marriage, and that is your right to do so- I challenge you to think about this carefully.

EDIT: To Moody Bleu- in a Platonic way, I love you, man. Thanks for all of your answers to my questions. I must confess something here- the reason why I think about gays so much is because I am trying to conceal my own latent homosexuality.

    He most certainly would not!

    If he was on Earth, he would treat homosexuals the same way he treated other gross sinners during his past earthly ministry. He would treat them with dignity and respect while using his teaching ability to try to reach their heart to encourage them to turn from their bad ways. He would be forgiving to those who repented.

    But he will not support or condone homosexuality or homosexual marriages.

    He might say something like:

    "Did you not read that He who made them in the beginning made them male and female and brought them together and blessed them and told them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth? So they were made to complement each other; and their union is such that they can bring forth children. But how will it be with a man joining himslef to a man or a woman joining herself to a woman? Against all practical wisdom, a wicked and adulterous generation keeps seeking after darkness. Most truly I say to you, whoever dishonors my Father by dishonoring marriage and dishonoring their bodies -- they shall have to render an account to Him when the Son of Man arrives in his glory, and all the angels with him."

    In the bible is says it is a sin & says something about gays not being allowed into heaven.

    I personally do not care if 2 gays were to marry. That is their lives & their business.

    I think the only reason it is wrong in the bible is because God says for people to go out & populate the Earth. 2 gay people can not populate the Earth obviously.

    okay so you believe in accepting people's opinions? that's wonderful because i have news for you and others JESUS IS NOT REAL. Like Thomas Paine said, religion is a parody on the worship of the sun. jesus himself is the sun (which is why he is always on a cross (his face sometimes)) the cross is just a pagan symbol, and the story of jesus christ himself had been plaguerized from the Egyptians and the isrealites. many other countries have the exact same story for their ideal subject of worship (check out Krishna and many others) so in all, you all are doing what everyone's been doing for thousands of years 'worshiping the sun'.

    'WOULD THE SUN APPROVE OF SAME SEX MARRIAGES' is what youre really asking. disgust and thinking wrongly of homosexuality is just SOMEONE'S OPINION. there is no higher being telling anyone that it is wrong. it is only yourself and the people who you've been raised with.

    Hard to say. I think one of the main principles upon which marriage is based is procreation. Same-sex couples cannot procreate so I don't believe marriage would hold the same value for them.

    But then again I am not Jesus so I cannot say for sure. I do believe that he would accept their wishes if marriage was what they truly desired.

    Impossible. Marriage is a mating relationship, and same-sex couples are biologically incapable of marriage.

    Jesus taught that in marriage, a husband and wife become one flesh. You can't get a husband and a wife who are the same sex, and unless they are of complementary sexes, they can't become one flesh.

    Jesus affirmed the OT moral law and came to fulfill it (see Lev 18). He defined marriage as a husband and wife becoming one flesh, and he said sexual immorality makes a man unclean (Mark 7). The explicit teachings of his apostles in Romans 1, I Corinthians 6, and Jude amplify his teachings for the pagan world.

    Jesus also rejected internal homosexuality, a homosexual orientation. He said that lust is tantamount to adultery (Matt 5), which implies that for a man to adopt a homosexual orientation is tantamount to lying with a man as with a woman.

    1) Liberal and conservative are not parties. There are conservative Democrats, for instance.

    2) It's not clear, especially if we believe the letters of Paul, that Jesus would "approve" of marriage in general. Paul clearly said people should only be married if they can't control their passions. That means marriage is always a product of weakness, and thus never something to "approve."

    Nope. He is God, and God created marriage to be between a man and a woman when He gave Eve to Adam. He sees any other union as a satanic counterfeit of the way He created us to live and love.
