Do you like pet rats?
We have two - Lacey and Penny. Both females. Lacey is very attention seeking and loves being handled. Penny is a bit shy but also likes to play. Our grand daughter (5) plays with them - no problem. Now she has two of her own!
Why I ask is: rats are fantastic pets. Better than nasty hamsters that like to sink their teeth into you! What do you think? Maybe change your mind about rats?
I've never abused a hamster in my life :-) Just tales I've heard... We also have two huge goldfish, a rabbit, and three cats!

I personally love them, i have have hamsters as pets as well and ive always found my rat to be better. Don't get me wrong i do like hamsters as well but i think they can be temperamental, for example, at some point in all of my hamsters lives they have bit me (and whoever says that's because we have abused them is stupid and making an unfair comment) but ive never been bit once by my rat.
They are also easier to train, cleverer, and nicer.
My mother turned her nose up when i said i had one however soon turned to love it (although she had issues with its tail :P)

I love them! I have 10 females living in a £250 cage, people need to stop being so narrow minded about things, hamsters really aren't the best pet for children a rat would put up with much more as a hamster would just bite at a kid who annoyed it, i get my rats just after they wake up and stroke them squish them hug them and blow raspberries on their tummies and they've NEVER once bitten me, they enjoy human interaction whereas a hamster puts up with you.. Really where do people think rats get their "plagues" and "Diseases" from when they are bred in the home, mine sit and clean themselves for about a half of the day and are litter trained in a matter of minutes.

My four children, myself, my brother and his five, and numerous nieces and nephews have all had hamsters for pets. Not one of us has ever been bitten by any of our hamsters - and that's more than a hundred of the furry little critters! You must have seriously abused the one that bit you... Anyhow, if you enjoy your pet rats, more power to ya. We've all graduated to cats and dogs...

I have never seen a pet rat.One thinks of the stereotypical rat of fleas and disease.and there is the long tale.although I see no reason why they could not be pets?

I do not like pet rats, and I don't plan to condone any in the future. As well as, hamsters I do plan to have one in the future, and maybe a gerbil too. I know, some people who has pet rats but to me they are just filthy and don't really make sense to have as a pet.
